Peter Singer believes that all animals--non-human and human--should be treated with equal consideration. Post a comment in which you compare and contrast your own definition of equality with Peter Singer's.
No matter how civilized we have become as humans. We constantly divert back to our animalistic ways constantly. When we go and slaughter and pillage .Are we acting like a human ? Well probably so .Would animals act in such a way ? Some have been known to do so .
ReplyDeleteTo me, equality is all about treating everything with respect. If you don't want something harmful done to you, think how another creature feels about being harmed.Humans still have that predatory habit of being the dominant, and smarter species. That being said we should be smart enough to know how to exist with other species peacefully.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part I think everyone can scream equality but the reality is that not many people follow or even achieve it. I agree with Peter Singer's ideology about equality and how it should be considered and achieved. Humans put themselves about animals merely because they have the ability to think rationally. Yet we mimic their behavior from eatting other animals right down to mating. So how can they be seen a superior? Animals suffer they feel pains and are affected by the harsh conditions they become forced to live in. And is nothing else like Peter made out they are not a necessity they are a preference.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe the concept of equal consideration between animals and humans is going too far. We as humans have all rights to consume anything and whenever we want to. Animals on the other hand do not comprehend any issues until a human teaches it. Animals and humans are two very different species. In which the end result should be two very different treatments.
ReplyDeleteWe are human but we always go back to acting like animal with rage, and aggrestion just as animal do. I believe that as humans we are above animals in the evalutional latter, so i feel even thought we act like animals sometimes. Animals are not our equals. Now i believe there's something called being inhuman, i believe to mistreat an animal is wrong and cruel....but to treat them as our equal is crazy

ReplyDeleteIM LAYING ON A PLASTIC COLD BED STARING AT THE CIELING, IN A ROOM THAT SMELLS SOMETHING LIKE ALCOHOL WONDERING HOW I GOT HERE. WITH IV ATTACH TO MY ARM THE NURSE TELLS ME THAT IM OK, IM THINKING OK FROM WHAT? THEN I REMEMBER THE BARBACUE...ALL DA FOOD....ALL THE DRINKING...."ALOT OF DRINKING!" I APARENTLY DRANK SO MUCH DAT I PASS OUT, IN OTHER WORK I FAINTED, COLLAPSE, FELL. I WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL TO FIND OUT THE OBIVIOUS, IM DRUNK. I HAD DRUNK MYSELF TO THE HOSPITAL BED,THEY ALSO SAID I WAS DEHYDRATED AND I NEED FUILDS. HOW COULD I HAVE LET IT COME TO THIS, IM NOT MUCH OF A DRINKER. I GUESS THE COMBINATION OF GOOD FOOD AND LIQOUR HAD NEVER TASTED SO GOOD LIKE IT DID THAT NIGHT, BUT THAT WASNT THEC WORST PART. THE NEXT TWO DAY WERE NOTHING MORE THAN LIKE AN EPISODE FROM THAT MOVIE MISERY, BECAUSR I FELT LIKE SOMEONE TOOK A SELGE HAMMER AND STARTED AT MY FEET AND WORK THEIR UP TO MY HEAD. I COULDNT MOVE WITHOUT PAIN, PAIN IN MY HEAD FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO EXPLODE, MY BODY FELT LIKE A WHOLE FOOTBALL TEAM COLLIDED INTO ME. I COULDNT EVEN COME TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, BUT HERE IM TUESDAY MAKING PROMISES THAT I WONT DRINK AGIAN. MYBE I SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM BARBACUES.
i believe that peter singer is right when he is talks about being equal and his definition of equality because i believe that if we as humans want anything to be considered equal we have to put other factors into mind not just the things that we are used to and also understand that a non human is as equal to us and that they also have a right to live and how would we feel if one day something more superior than man started hunting us because the only thing he could eat was humans???
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peter Singer with his ideaology of equality that if we treat everyone the same non human and human, it would be a great thing for us. We were brought into this world to take care of animals and their and our habitats. I don't like the idea of hunting animals for sport or destroying the forests. We are ruining the earth by doing that. Sure we hunt some animals for food but that doesn't mean we should treat them differently. We have to know how we deal with different species to the best of our ability.
ReplyDeleteI think all animals deserve to be treated the same way. Just think for a moment, how you going to feel if someone kick you out of the house and then you don’t have any food for several days. That is the way how the homeless animals feels, and that is not happiness and moral. I’m supporting the author Peter Singer who said that all animals have feelings. My point of view is that all humans and animals are the same and we should treat all the species the same way, because we-people are the most dangerous and manipulating species in the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peter Singer that human should not treat animals cruelly. But I don’t think that human and animals will be equal, because the world is not perfect. How do human do with mice? Although we will not eat them, we kill them every day. If human and animals are equal, the mice shouldn’t be killed. And then the mice will do anything they want. I don’t think every human could accept this fact. I know some animals that are in meat industries are treated cruelly. But I still know that most of animals that are in zoos, forest and human’s house have good living conditions.
ReplyDeleteEquality to me is the basic right every living creature has. I believe we all have the right to live, be happy, and love. I agree with Peter Singers definition of equality. He says that all animals have feelings and this true. When you hit an animal it cries and yelps. Us humans must keep in mind that we are still animals are selfs. The only thing that seperates us from them is our intelligence. Something we clearly don't use for much good.
ReplyDeleteI am strongly agree with Peter Singer that all human and non human being should be treated equally but it should be depend on the nature of the members. Moreover, Equal consideration for different beings may lead to different treatment and different rights.
ReplyDeletePeter singer makes a great agreeable argument about animals being treated harsh. Although i do agree with singer, humans are superior to everything because we have the power of knowledge. Therefore we have the ability to make sense of what should be eaten.Animals should be food. The only problem that humans face is the process of how the animal is going to be processed in the food industry. Animals should have the right to live a great life and the right to have a very humane death. No one should suffer greatly when approaching death.
ReplyDeleteI believe that his idea of equality through all natural things is a courteous ideal but we cannot ignore the fact that our ancestral behaviors lurks beneath our skin's.I may sound crude to say but i believe we are the superior species , we look out to benefit ourselves. For the most part nothing should intentionally suffer although suffering is just a part of life. We are at the top of the food chain which causes us to do as we please. It may sound weird but i also believe that the more complex the animal the more respect we may have for it.
ReplyDeleteI cannot accept the fact that as human being treated equally with non-human even thus we have one life. I understand that we are making mistakes sometime, or we are treating some animals unfairly, but I believe we cannot change the fact that our intellectual levels is greater than the non-human is unless we found aliens that can beat us. Sometime I ask myself why this is a billionaire, millionaire, and why this is very poor it all depend on how we perceive thing. This inequality will always exist, but we still can change the way we behave on animals at least make it better if we cannot completely change it. As Mr. Peter Singer explains to us in this passage, I think we must reviews our obligations visa-avis to non-human (animals).
ReplyDeleteyes animals dont have the same abilities and knowledge as human beings, animals differ from us in so many ways and thats why humans are the dominant specie. But that dont give us the right to treat animals with so much cruelty, just like we have feelings they feel too. Blacks were once treated like slaves, and they fought for equal rights, women werent allow to vote but they fought for equal rights. As we all fight because we feel like we deserve to get treated equal, animals deserve to be free.
